I married a young Kiwi couple on a very hot day at the Carrilley Estate Winery on the day after Valentines Day. They initially met on New Year’s Eve, in Whangamata, (pronounced Funga ma ta) in New Zealand back when they were 18 and 17 respectively, being life change number 1. Note, as Celebrants, and deliverers of information at ceremonies we are often confronted with weird and wonderful names of brides and grooms and also cities and towns that they may have lived in, that must be pronounced properly. So it is really important to at least try to get it right.
Here is Ally walking down the aisle with her Dad. Beautiful dress!
Whangamata is a very popular beach resort spot, on the south coast of the North Island on the Coromandel Peninsular, to the north of the western extremity of the Bay of Plenty and was the local playground for teenagers over summer. They both admitted to having a bit too much to drink and not remembering each other, but managed to exchange telephone numbers luckily for them.
Two years later they were living together and making plans for their future together. Then came, “life change” # 2, this time a decision to move away from friends and family in New Zealand to Christmas Island. Which is where Gavin got down on one knee and asked Ally for her hand in marriage. And of course, she said yes.
They then moved to Perth for better work opportunities and lifestyle, with Gavin now doing FIFO and, life change # 3, low and behold their first borne Kaylee Paige made her arrival.
Heaps of family came over from NZ for their nuptials and a big night was had by all.
